So let's do it, just get on a plane and just do it

Like the birds and the bees and get to it
Just get out of town and forever be free
Forever, I wonder we could stay together
It could change if you want for the better
Just turn down my shirt and lay down next to me

get me outtah here

A heart that's full up like a landfill,

a job that slowly kills you, bruises that won't heal.

You look so tired-unhappy, bring down the government,

they don't, they don't speak for us.

I'll take a quiet life, a handshake of carbon monoxide, with no alarms and no surprises

number two hundred thirty-six

Wanting to change the world isn’t naive; it’s normal.

I hope you are able to fend off cynicism as long as possible to keep your youthful passion sincere and viable.

all i need is the air i breathe

waiting with patience means
actively accepting the current
circumstances
and giving up the illusion
that you can control the world

patience takes practice
patience is practice

the best way to cultivate it
is to
remind yourself constantly
that every moment is the only place your life is occuring

live completely in the present, in peace

i've been grooving on edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros so hard lately! i bought their album last weekend. they're a little bit like the moody blues, except high on weed & endorphins and traveling 1970s US in an dirty volkswagon van.

check out my friend's photography... pretty sweet stuff. I met him while I was abroad in the Galapagos and it looks like he's had many adventures since.

chipping away

My roommates and I have gotten into this awesome habit of putting all of our "A"assignments on the refridgerator (maybe we should have done this a few years ago rather than weeks before graduation).. Anyway, I recently read one of these proudly-posted assignments that my roommate had written, where she uses me as an example of an individual belonging to the 'green movement' that has in the past decade or so sprouted up all over the nation. At the same time, my boyfriend's senior thesis ties in climate change, politics & the green movement. Both my roommate and my boyfriend are poking a bit of satirical fun at the idea that this movement is still based in capitalism, which is a huge issue in and of iteself, and that all these companies are just jumping on the bandwagon to sell some product. She argues that we cannot by ourselves make a difference; that we are the hippies of 2010, we drive to Target and buy tee shirts made in bangladesh with a bright green recycle label, made of cotton that was cultivated with herbicides and pesticides and picked by workers who are making less than 15 cents a day...

Regardless of who we are and who we are not, we are making a difference, and it's starting out pretty small but I am not discouraged. We are chipping away at a consciousness - at an institutional consciousness - and the wheels are turning.
